Crochet Extra – April 2021
April is an exciting month for me – it is the birthday month – with six members of our family having birthdays. My brother turns 50, and of course that means a party. I hope to be taking some time off and going to New South Wales for this to see family and friends. Sarah, Kathie and Sharon will be manning the store.
This month we feature our customer corner. It’s always great to see your creations and they give inspiration to others. We have an amazing collection of photos that have been submitted – many of you have been very busy In the last few months. The winner of our $25 voucher is Frances L – congratulations.
We have a date for the retreat! Lock it in your diary – 28 and 29 August. We are finalising the projects over the next few weeks and will open for registrations by the end of April. This will once again be at Surfair in Marcoola. We hope to have better weather this year so we can enjoy the beach.
We have some new yarns arrive, just in time for winter. The Cotton Royal Colour Waves by Fibra Natura – an 8 ply cake in cotton and acrylic. I have begun making a Mandala vest with it and it is lovely to work with, feels beautiful and soft and doesn’t split at all. And Opal Edelweiss sock yarn – variegated sock yarn with vitamin E and Edelweiss extract – beautiful on the feet!
We will be introducing some price increases on our yarns and accessories in the coming months. Over the last 12 months we have had significant price increases, primarly due to the increase in freight. We have been absorbing these as much as possible to keep the prices constant for you, but we have reached a stage where we need to increase these. We will do this in two stages – a 4% increase from 1 May and a 2% increase from 1 August. In the meantime though, don’t forget to check out our clearance stock to pick up yarn for winter projects, which will give us room for our new stock! Clearance stock (click here)
Have you signed up for our workshop for April? In April we will be learning the waterfall crochet technique by making squares – a new way of working with colour to create patterns. Book your spot now. You can also see our calendar for all upcoming workshops.
Happy Easter to you all. If you are taking a holiday please drive carefully.
Until next time
Lynda
Theme—Mothers Day Gifts
Mother’s Day – a day to celebrate and honour the mother of a family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. Australia first officially celebrated Mother’s Day in 1924. (Wikipedia)
This tradition began with a Sydney woman – Janet Heyden – who wanted to help the lonely, elderly mothers at a hospital she visited. Ms Heyden asked school and businesses to donate gifts to the women at the hospital, many whom had lost their husbands and sons in World War 1 or had never been wives or mothers because of the war. (www.kidsnews.com.au)
Although Mother’s Day is not an official holiday many families have introduced their own traditions of visiting or calling their mothers, going out for a meal together or sending gifts as a way of honouring their Mum.
Add an extra personal touch to your gift by making it yourself. A gift made with love will make her feel treasured and appreciated. Something personal to wear – ponchos, shawls, scarves, socks, slippers or jewellery or a piece of home décor – basket, bags, flowers or coaster can be made with her colours in mind. We feature books and kits this month that make excellent mothers day gifts. We’ve also created some new kits with personal accessories just for Mum – to help take out the guess work. These kits can be purchased and made within the month, or the kit given to creative Mums as a thoughtful gift. Check them all out here (take me there)
OR if you can’t see the right thing, give us a call and we can make up a package of items of your choice and post it out to your Mum….such a touching thoughtful gift when you don’t live close to your Mum or Mother figure.
We also have Gift Vouchers so you can leave the choices up to Mum. Either way we have you covered here at Crochet Australia so give us a call, jump online or pop in and see us.
