Crochet Extra – December 2020
Thank you to all of you who gave us feedback on our website. It has identified some issues with the search function. We’ve implemented some quick and easy fixes, while one issue needs a little more time to solve as we are not sure why it isn’t working like it should! But we should have this resolved shortly.
And of course thank you to those who placed orders on our new website. The winner of our draw for all orders received up to November 14 is Dianne C, who receives a place at our December workshop including the yarn to make a hookholder.
It’s now just a short time until the end of the year, but our scorching hot summers have already started. I just love summer and summer crochet – don’t you! There is a misconception out there that crocheting is only for winter months – blankets, beanies and scarves. But we all know that it is far more than that. My favourite summer crochet projects are bags, jewellery, toys and summer clothes. But of course there are many more – summer hats, amigurumi, baskets, wall hanging, cushions, just to name a few. Using cotton is of course a must – i just love taking these projects to the park or other outings while enjoying the great summer weather. What’s your favourite summer project?
Pantone have announced the colour of the year for 2021 – Aqua. This is one of my favourite colours and such a great colour for summer too!
We also feature our customer corner this month, where you can see some of the fun our participants had in our workshops this year. Congratulations to Yvonne B who won our $25 voucher for the quarter
In December we will be making this hook holder – a great way to store your crochet hooks, or give as a gift to a fellow crocheter. Book your spot now – instore or online. See our calendar for all times available.
As a reminder we are closed from 24th December until 4 January – so don’t delay in getting your summer crochet supplies.
Until next time
Lynda
Theme—Crafting with Bead
This month at Crochet Australia we are stepping up the fun and highlighting different ways you can use beads in your work. Whether you do crochet, knitting, tatting or macrame there are loads of ways to create a unique point of difference in your craft pieces, and make great summer projects.
Beads are most often used in jewellery making such as bracelets, earrings, necklaces etc. You can also add that touch of class to your purse, clutch bags or any type of bag, create a beautiful applique to adorn that special item of clothing, tablecloth, cushion cover or anything your heart desires. Use beads to put the finishing touches on your mandalas to create dreamcatchers or wall hangings. Combine some beautiful beads with your tassel creations to finish off drawstrings on your market bags. Or join in the revival of the traditional jug covers that our ancestors have made and passed down through the generations…..they add such a magical touch to any tea party or coffee catch up.
We are all busy making those special Christmas gifts and ornaments so why not add that special finish with some beading work in your pieces. At Crochet Australia we have loads of resources to help you create your special projects using beads…. from a variety of patterns and books to a lovely range of glass or plastic beads. There are needles for threading your beads, trays for organising your beads and Clover tassel makers to complete that beaded cord along with loads of other crochet, knitting or tatting accessories. We also have an extensive range of cottons that are perfect for your beaded designs. One of our most popular sellers is the Lizbeth range that offers gorgeous metallics, variegated or plain colours to suit any project. See a selection of these in our section below.

Hi Fellow Fibre Friends,
Shaz here. I’m just popping in for a bit of fun and to share a magical moment with you.
Our November workshops here at Crochet Australia have been about crocheting with beads. Well something wonderful came out of this. Lynda designed a beaded bag for us to make that carries a mobile phone.
As some of you may be aware, Lynda is forever putting her phone down and forgetting where she has placed it. The ladies from this year’s retreat will know what I’m talking about😉. Not a day goes by in the shop that we don’t hear Lynda say “has anyone seen my phone”.
Well of course Lynda had to make a sample of this bag to show us and TADAAAA… she has her very own bag to wear all day so that mischievous phone of hers can’t go walkabout.
It’s amazing what kinds of wonderful come from our monthly workshops.
Let’s hope Lynda doesn’t forget where she has put her bag 😳🤣.
Happy Hooking 😍
