Crochet Extra – October 2022

superb 8 new coloursIt’s been a busy month here at Crochet Australia with all the new colours of the Superb 8 coming in – 17 are expected in all, with 12 arriving this last week.    We have had to reorganise the shop to accommodate it all.    There are some beautiful colours in there and I can see myself making something with them.

We’ve also made the decision to discontinue the Almina 4 ply cotton – more colours have been discontinued and we are finding it difficult to get the stocks of colours they do have.    But we have sourced another 4 ply cotton which will come in later this month.

The MT Perle 5 and Maxi #10 thread will no longer have the variegated colours – so we won’t be able to restock these colours once we’ve sold out.

We had a lovely surprise this week.  After 3 years of sponsoring the Best Exhibitorcrochet australia ekka sponsorship 2022 in Open Crochet at EKKA, we had one of the winners come in to the shop and she brought in her winning entry.  A beautiful dolls outfit complete with undergarments, and shoes.  Well done Meryl.  You too could be a winner of our voucher next year – what will you enter?

This month there are some other exciting events – Saturday the 8th is I Love Yarn Day.  To celebrate and help you with your love of yarn we will be having 10% off all yarn sales ordered via our website on that day.

We will be closed Monday 3rd October for the long weekend and also Friday 14th October due to personal commitments.

New prices for Scheepjes, Tulip and DMC also become effective today.

crochet summer top classOur Crochet class this month is to crochet a summer top designed by Live Love Crochet Shaz.  These start Monday night via zoom.  If  you miss the first night, you can still join in week 2.   The pattern will be available  to buy at the end of the month.

Crochet a Mandala Floor Rug NovemberAnd next month we are making this lovely floor rug designed by HandmadebyPeriwinkle.  Or make it for the table.

I hear more rain is on its way for many parts of the country – I hope everyone stays safe and you get plenty of crochet time.

Until next time

Theme—Crochet on the Go – Quick and small projects

I don’t know about you, but I always have a variety of projects on the go. I love making larger or more complicated makes when I’m at home but these are not always easy to take with you. If you are like me, you always have your crochet, knitting or craft with you…. because you never know when you might get a chance to pump some stitches out – so something else has to be on the go.

crochet on the goI like to meet my friends for a coffee or take a moment to sit in the park or at the beach, sometimes I am waiting for an appointment or sitting in the car to pick up kids. What ever the scenario is for you we always have those times where we wished we could have filled this time with some crochet, knitting, tatting etc.

I have many small or quick projects around that I can pick up and take anywhere.  These are my on-the-go WIPs (works in progress). My small project bag is always ready with my hook case with a variety of hooks, small timber yarn bowl or mini yarn carrier (light weight and holds all sorts of yarn), stitch markers, tape measure, needles, scissors, row counter and of course the yarn and pattern I am working with for that project.

For me, it’s the perfect way to get gifts made like some new dishcloths/face washers, handtowels, teapot cosy, mug mats, potholders, baskets, baby gifts and the list goes on. You’ll enjoy being able to take your crochet, knitting etc with you and making the most of those in between moments.

We feature this month just some of the books and patterns in our range – it was hard to choose which ones to feature there are so many.  We also have a great selection of kits that come with the yarn, and pattern for a complete project. Not to mention our huge range of accessories that will get you enjoying creating on the go.

If you need any help getting your on-the-go kit set up, then know that we have an extensive range of supplies and are happy to assist you with this at Crochet Australia.

If you are stuck with your on-the-go project try this free pattern for a bottle holder by Trish at Cotton Crochet Forever– it will look fantastic in the camilla batik cotton and make perfect gifts.
